Since October 2014, a small cultural revolution has been animating Marseille. At the heart of the city, an unusual place, the Villa Alliv, has opened. This 400m2 site, nestled in the heart of a park, welcomes artists from all backgrounds. By turn art gallery, artist residency and party space, it aims to spotlight the new generation of contemporary artists.
Three key figures on the Marseille cultural scene are behind this singular initiative: Rough Dandies, a nocturnal agitator and creator of One Again Club; Tito, street art specialist at Backside Gallery; and Sébastien Fritsch, the multitasking artist and founder of On-Off Gallery.
The first to take up residence is Cedric "Tabas" Malo, an illustrator and graphic designer from Marseille. From December 13, 2014 to February 11, 2015, he presents the installation "Villa T'moins," in which he invests every room of the gallery, reinventing them as he goes. He redecorates with trompe-l’oeil, devious furniture and even a smoking-room. Crazy!
By expressing all his creativity in the rooms of the Villa Alliv, the artist brilliantly inaugurates this unique and promising place.
