What is your connection with Provence? What is it that makes the region so special to you?
I was born and grew up in Allauch, near Marseille. But I wouldn't go as far as to say there is a "special connection". Perhaps because when I started to make music, I received less support there than in other cities such as Toulouse. When I go back there, I really like to go and see my sister: her place is really cute and in a great location in a neighbourhood that has the feel of an old village.
The heat in Provence is especially nice and pleasant and there are some amazing places. My sister has introduced me to a lot of these places in Marseille, such as the Mucem - it has an appealing design right on the edge of the sea. I don't have a very good sense of direction but there is also a little restaurant right next to it with breathtaking views of the city, the museum and the sea.
How do your roots influence you on a daily basis?
My strong personality for a start. Then, there is what is meant and the reality. I had a quiet upbringing and learned to keep my feet on the ground. I really aspire to continue making music, but I want to stay true to me while at the same time continuing to grow.
This is why I waited a long time for this album. I have never wanted to completely stop or take a break as some have said. I simply wanted to pursue a project that was me: and this is what I really felt with 'Fearless'.
What do you want to get across in your songs? What are your future aspirations?
I try to put down my life experiences in one way or another. Through this album, I have mainly drawn inspiration from life's complicated moments rather than happy memories. I have learned a lot about myself through the writing process on this one. Writing, composing and singing, as well as the different people I have met along the way have helped give me a sense of what I do and don't like.
I'm not much of a dreamer. I believe more in the power of hard work and commitment. After that, opportunities either come along or they don't and an individual can either grasp them or not. Basically, I approach each day with the desire to do my utmost and give it everything I have.
