When Nature becomes Art at the Domaine du Rayol

Nestled at the foot of the Massif des Maures mountain range, the Domaine du Rayol Mediterranean garden is preparing to welcome, for this second edition, artists of different sensibilities to its land art festival. It’s a unique cultural event where nature and creativity combine in a raw state.

To do as much as possible for, and as little as possible against." This is the philosophy of Gilles Clément, the designer of the famous 7-hectare garden located at the water's edge in Rayol-Canadel-sur-Mer. Always eager to reveal to the public the beauty of nature, especially that of the Mediterranean coast, this lover of the great outdoors envisioned a land art festival bringing together artists from different backgrounds.

Profiles such as landscaper gardener, architect, or visual artist are invited to bring a new perspective – at once curious, aesthetic, even provocative – to the demanding theme of the mineral as frontier to the garden. A challenge that aims to reveal the element of fantasy linked to this characteristic space, through in-situ works created in perfect harmony with the famous “Mediterranean garden”.

A new edition of the festival that the invited German artist Cornelia Konrads inaugurated with two evocative installations, soon followed by four projects selected by a jury of experts chaired by Gilles Clément. It’s a perfect opportunity to get lost in the heart of this verdant landscape, against the backdrop of the sea.
